Who we are
Venous health isn’t about vanity, but is also not just a health issue. AVA’s mission is to elevate the standards in venous health, offering honest advice and advanced treatments to drive the best patient outcomes.
Our passion is improving the quality of people’s lives and we believe that everyone should have access to affordable and high-quality care without having to endure excessive waiting times. At AVA we strive to alleviate our patients’ symptoms and help them feel like themselves again. As the leaders in our field we will never compromise on the quality of our service or our values.
Conditions treated
We offer a range of advanced treatment options for varicose and thread veins with completely transparent pricing. Our walk-in / walk-out procedures typically take less than an hour and you suffer no downtime.
Clinical excellence and patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do. Diagnosis and treatment is performed exclusively by consultant vascular surgeons, enabling us to build on the NICE approved techniques that are routinely offered in the NHS to offer a world class service. Unlike some national clinics, we do not compromise outcomes by utilising GPs or nursing staff to perform diagnostic or surgical treatments.
Whatever the issue, we can provide advice on the best way forward and have you back into your favourite shorts and skirts in no time.
How it works
Clinical excellence and patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do.
Step 1
Free consultation and scan
Introductory telephone conversation to allow you to chat to your surgeon and for us to better understand your specific needs.
Following this you will be offered a free, no obligation consultation with a vascular surgeon at our purpose-built clinic. Your surgeon will take your medical history, perform an examination and undertake a duplex ultrasound scan to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms, following which they will be able to discuss recommended treatment options.
Step 1 is free of charge, with no obligation to undertake treatment after your consultation.
Step 2
Primary treatment
Treatment will be undertaken at our state-of-the-art, purpose-built clinic.
The most common primary treatment is Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), which is often performed alongside foam sclerotherapy or avulsions depending on your specific needs.
In some instances foam sclerotherapy may be performed as the primary treatment without requirement for EVLA.
Step 3
Follow up consultation
A follow up consultation is scheduled for ~6 weeks post treatment, during which another ultrasound scan will be performed to confirm treatment success. A further session of foam sclerotherapy or avulsions may be undertaken at this time if required to treat superficial veins.
Step 4
Further follow up as required
Some patients may require follow up sessions of sclerotherapy to achieve optimal results (clinical best practice limits the volume of foam sclerotherapy which can be administered per session).
Most patients require up to two sessions of foam treatment, however we include three within our transparent fixed pricing so you can be sure of achieving the best results without worrying about additional cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
We understand the stresses and challenges that venous issues can bring. Our aim is to remove the impersonal reputation of the medical industry and provide you with clear, reliable information, which enables you to make informed decisions and take the next steps towards better venous health.
If you cannot find the information you are looking for within our FAQs then please feel free to reach out to our team who will be able to provide further advice.
What treatment will I need?
For both thread veins and varicose veins, we perform a colour duplex ultrasound scan to determine if there are underlying issues causing the symptoms (e.g venous insufficiency in the greater saphenous vein).
The treatment to address the underlying cause is likely to be EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation), which is the Gold Standard for Varicose Vein treatment as recommended by NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence).
It is likely that you will require secondary treatment of Foam or Avulsions to treat the visible veins near the surface. 1 to 2 follow up sessions (all included within our price) is typical.
How long does the treatment take and how long is the recovery period?
EVLA treatment typically takes ~40 mins (single leg) to ~1 hour (both legs) and is performed under local anaesthetic. The technique is a minimally invasive, walk-in and walk-out procedure. We have a dedicated recovery room if you would like to relax post procedure with some refreshments before continuing on with your day.
Symptomatic relief can be felt in the days post treatment once any discomfort associated with your treatment has subsided and the majority of patients can go back to their daily activities immediately. A small number of patients experiencing mild discomfort for up to a week post procedure.
How experienced is the AVA team?
Our team is led by David Ormesher, a Consultant Vascular Surgeon with 10 years' experience of treating patients with venous disease. David treats varicose veins as part of his role within the NHS and is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Royal Society of Medicine Venous Forum.
Unlike many national operators, we do not utilise nurses or GPs to either diagnose venous insufficiency or perform EVLA. EVLA is a highly proven, safe and effective technique if performed by experienced vascular surgeons, and whilst other practitioners (nurses, GPs, interventional radiologists) can learn the technique, we believe that the best clinical outcomes are delivered by utilising experienced consultant vascular surgeons who have been trained to treat varicose veins in their NHS roles.
Before undergoing any treatment with any provider you should ask about the experience and credentials of the surgeon. David is an expert in his field and is supported by an experienced nursing team led by Sister Georgie Maughan, who has many years of experience within both the NHS and private practice. We are regulated by the CQC, and deliver our services from a custom built, best in class clinic that is focussed solely on vascular surgery. We would be delighted to welcome you to show you around.
